The resources below can be integrated into a unit for Canadian History 30S for Manitoba students or used independently.

The companion podcast series provides additional historical context and explores the everyday lived experiences of German immigrant women moving to Canada, including those featured in "What They Can Teach Us." Episodes examine themes of food, fashion, music, and cultural adaptation during the postwar period.

The podcasts may be used:
•    As a lesson introduction
•    To provide historical context before oral history analysis
•    As a source of evidence for student inquiry
•    To support listening and media literacy skills
•    As a supplement to lessons on identity, belonging, and diversity

Students complete accompanying listening guides and worksheets designed to support historical thinking and source analysis.

Students investigate:

  • What immigrant women ate

  • What they wore

  • What music they listened to

  • What films, television programs, and media they enjoyed

  • How cultural traditions were maintained or adapted
